The Cross Hands Hotel is a charming old posting house dating from the
14th century. Queen Elizabeth II sought shelter here during a blizzard
in the winter of 1981, and those of you who like a bit of spooky
history might like to know that the cellars were once used to house
convicted criminals, sentenced to death by 'Bloody' Judge Jeffreys.
Today The Cross Hands provides superbly presented en suite bedrooms
including
The
Queen Elizabeth II Suite four-poster. All are
equipped with Wi-Fi, TV, hairdryer, iron and board, generous hospitality
tray, direct dial telephones and for the less able guest, ground floor
bedrooms. The oak beamed Beaufort bar has an olde worlde atmosphere
full of charm
and character with a roaring open fire in the cooler
seasons: just fabulous for sampling a glass or two of something special
and a bite of their delicious bar food. The restaurant here at The Cross hands is relaxed, spacious and occupies two levels, providing a
warm friendly
atmosphere. The food is adventurous and undeniably good;
this no doubt accounts for the many locals eat here, which is always the
sign
of good food and welcoming hospitality. What a fabulous place for
your gay civil wedding ceremony and reception. Your hosts are Dawn and
Andrew, a friendly hardworking duo who, together with their team of staff,
really do know a thing or two about hospitality. Fabulous.
