The Old Lodge Hotel, Bar and Restaurant, Minchinhampton Common, Stroud, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

www.the-old-lodge-stroud.co.uk

The Old Lodge Hotel dates back some 400 years and is reportedly a former hunting lodge to Henry VIII and the wooded area that surrounds it known as Minchinhampton Common was confiscated and given to l`Abbaye aux Dames in Caen. Then some 800 years later the owners Christophe (a Norman himself) and business partner Nick continue to add to this fascinating Anglo French story. The Old Lodge Hotel has magnificent views and an envied position at the centre not only of the common with its free ranging cattle but also of Minchinhampton Golf Course. The six en suite bedrooms that include a honeymoon suite are simply stunning: contemporary decor with stylish furnishings, and each room comes equipped with wireless broadband, DVD and digital LCD TV. The restaurant at The Old Lodge serves seriously good food all cooked to perfection by the talented brigade of chefs and served with style, and Christophe keeps a sensational cellar: from a cheeky Italian Rose to Laurent Perrier Grand Siecle Brut NV Champagne. From its lofty location on Minchinhampton Common, The Old Lodge with its fabulous views, beautiful surroundings and 400-year-old history is the perfect place for celebrating your gay civil wedding ceremony and reception in both style and comfort in the sound knowledge that Chris Wright the manager (whose eye for detail is simply astonishing) will, together with his friendly hard working team of staff, make your special day a fabulous wedding to remember. Just imagine the photographs with the stunning Old Lodge and its location as a backdrop.

Gay Owned Traditional English Pub, Restaurant and Party Venue Cotswolds
Fostons Ash Pub and Restaurant, The Camp, Birdlip, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

www.fostons-ash-pub-birdlip.co.uk

The Fostons Ash is a Grade II listed Cotswold stone inn, named after a former turnpike keeper. The Fostons Ash can be found at the end of the Slad Valley amidst Cider with Rosie country. With easy access from Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester and Stroud, it’s well worth travelling that extra mile into the heart of the Cotswolds Hills to sample the fine ales, wine, remarkable food and for soaking up the ethereal atmosphere. The Fostons Ash has lots of traditional features plus comfortable contemporary furniture that gently updates this inn without turning it into some ghastly Formica and plastic palace that we see all too often. The Fostons Ash is a quintessentially English pub with heart, character and soul. Rosie the friendly manager told me that even the original underground cellar has been retained and that Fostons Ash is part of the Gloucester Ale Trail. So this place is a must for all of you roaming beer aficionados. Now for me as a gin and tonic guy I turn to the real reason I’m here, the food: it’s fabulous and varied with Mediterranean influences. To give you an idea I started with a Classic Caesar Salad that would have delighted Gordon Ramsay, followed by pan-fried fillet of hake with tomato relish and grilled vegetables which was to die for. With enormous willpower and a tight waistband I declined pudding although they looked delicious. As with all Food Club houses, Christophe’s wine list is sensational.

Gay Friendly Restaurant and Bed & Breakfast Cotswolds
St Michaels House Restaurant with Rooms, Victoria Street, Painswick, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

www.stmickshouse.co.uk

St Michaels House Restaurant with Rooms is a beautiful 17th century Grade II listed building with a wealth of character that overlooks the famous village church in the heart of Painswick which is often referred to as the Queen of the Cotswolds due to its fine buildings of pale grey limestone. St Michaels House Restaurant and Bed & Breakfast is owned and run by a remarkably talented husband and wife team Matt and Madga who between them lavish extraordinarily good food and provide beautiful accommodation for their guests. Matt is an award-winning chef whose attention to detail is simply astonishing and the only additive you will find in his kitchen is passion. Madga comes from a family of wine producers so as you would imagine the selection and quality of wines are impressive. There are three beautiful en-suite bedrooms: The Indian Room has a gorgeous four poster rosewood bed with a coloured glass canopy; the Art Deco Room has an original 1920's ornate chrome and enamel bed and the Rococo Room has a richly carved dark mahogany bed in the French Rococo style. All of these bedrooms have luxurious furniture, hand made mattresses, goose down duvets and pillows and are equipped with: flat screen television, internet access, radio alarm clocks, hair dryer and generous hospitality tray. Add to this Madga’s thoughtful finishing touches of fruit bowl and fresh cut flowers in each room make staying here so very very special. Matt and Magda have without doubt created a fabulous restaurant and rooms for only the nicest people to discover. Priceless.

Gay Owned Inn, Bar, Restaurant and Special Occasion Party Venue Cotswolds
Tipputs Inn, Bar and Restaurant, Bath Road, Nailsworth, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

www.tipputs-inn-nailsworth.co.uk

We are delighted to publish a listing for the beautiful and intriguingly named Tipputs Inn. The owner Christophe explained all. Tipputs Inn and Restaurant is found at the head of the valley south of Nailsworth at Tiltups End, so named because heavily laden carts leaving Nailsworth for Bath would tilt up or lose their load, only to be safe after crossing the brow of the escarpment, hence “Tilt-ups end”. Imagine the sigh of relief from the old carters when the sight of this grand coaching inn came into view. Today Tipputs Inn is a sophisticated friendly bar, restaurant and special occasions venue with snug bars, lounges and a galleried restaurant that occupies the former barn. The food here is simply fabulous with an extensive menu and sensational wine list. As with all of the Food Club venues, the real magic is the quality and freshness of the food in stunning surroundings with a team of friendly efficient staff. The whole atmosphere and quality at Tipputs is testament to Christohe’s astonishing eye for detail together with his passion and commitment to deliver something unique and special for his guests. Paul the manager together with his friendly hard working team of staff are all class acts in the art of service and entertaining. Tipputs makes a great occasion fantastic and is fabulous for a special celebration or get-together, and there are pleasant garden terraces for al fresco dining and drinks during the summer months. Priceless

The Britannia Inn’s past life was a grand manor house of generous proportions. Now reborn as a vibrant town centre bar with an open plan restaurant and gardens that occupy the entire south side of Cossack Square in Nailsworth, The Britannia Inn enjoys a bohemian and friendly bunch of clientele that include the faithful locals and visitors to the beautiful Cotswolds, the former being devotees of the fine ales, wines, superb food and the friendly service, and the latter being just delighted at finding this unique hostelry by chance.  The Britannia Inn provides snug bars with roaring log fires in the colder seasons.  Gay Friendly Hotel, Bar, Restaurant, Licensed for Gay Civil Wedding Ceremonies Cotswolds
The Ormond at Tetbury Hotel, Bar and Restaurant, 23 Long Street, Tetbury, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire

www.theormond.co.uk

I
found The Ormond at Tetbury sat amongst other handsome Georgian buildings opposite HRH Prince Charles Highgrove Shop in Long Street, Tetbury’s finest thoroughfare where high-quality antique and speciality shops abound, all vying for your attention and cash. Inside, the style brief moves from soft modernity to the rather grand. There are 15 en-suite bedrooms, some of which are pleasingly quirky and include: boutique chic rooms, a romantic four-poster room festooned with drapes, and The Stable Room which is more of a suite.  All of these bedrooms are immaculately presented and well equipped with flat screen LCD TV and generous hospitality trays. If you, like me, find boiling kettles in the bedroom a little near to “camping out” do not worry: good old fashioned room service is still alive and kicking here at The Ormond; how civilised
and cool is that?  Dining here is a delight, and the restaurant seems to transform from bright, chatty and comfortable at lunch times to a more intimate and romantic space for dinner. I guess it’s the candlelight that does it for me. You can also eat in the bar or weather permitting in the pretty courtyard. The food here is seriously good whilst not pretentious.  Head
Chef David Cameron can be seen most mornings picking up local supplies in readiness for the day's Menu. Apart from the obvious comfort and style here at The Ormond, the real stars are the friendly and hardworking couple Iain and Adrienne who together with their smiley bunch of staff are all experts in the hospitality stakes – little wonder that between them they have won more awards for their welcome, food and service than you can shake a stick at!  A fabulous stay. Richard.
